Homemade biscuits are such a comfort food for me. Growing up in the south, biscuits are not just for breakfast. They can be served with any meal and they are pretty much a staple in my house. I will show you a super easy recipe that I know your whole family will love. The best part is that this homemade biscuit recipe only requires a few ingredients that you probably all ready have in your kitchen.
These homemade biscuits are so buttery and flaky that you will not be able to stop eating them! My favorite way to eat them is with fresh strawberry jam or honey. If you are in a time constraint biscuits are a great substitution for bread rolls because they do not need to to proof.

Helpful tips to make the best biscuits
- Freeze your butter- The frozen butter creates steam while baking which results in a flakier biscuit.
- don’t over work the dough- handle the dough as little as possible, no kneading! you don’t want to build up gluten.
- Fold the dough over itself 3 times when rolling out- This will create flaky layers
- Bake the close together for a taller rise
- Brush the tops with cream or melted butter before baking
What if I don’t have buttermilk?
You can substitute buttermilk for 1 cup of whole milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Mix together and let the milk sit for 5 minutes.
Can I make this without a food processor?
Yes! you can totally make this by hand with just a mixing bowl and a pastry cutter or a fork. I like to use a cheese grater to grate the frozen butter into the flour and then use a fork to cut it into the flour. Just try not to use your hands as much as possible so the butter doesn’t melt.

How to make the best biscuits
Preheat the oven to 450 F and combine all of the dry ingredients together
Cut the butter into cubes and pulse the butter into the dry ingredients a little at a time until a crumbly texture appears.
Next add the buttermilk and heavy cream and blend until a dough forms.
Roll out the dough but try not to handle it too much, you don’t want the butter to melt.
Fold the dough over itself and then roll it out again to create flaky layers, repeat 3 times.
After the final fold roll out the dough to and inch and a half thickness and cut the biscuits. Place them in a cast iron pan or backing sheet and place in the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
