This recipe is the easiest homemade pizza dough you will ever make! The best part is that this is a no knead dough and can be prepared a head of time and left in the fridge until you need it. This homemade pizza dough is crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. My kids ask for this every week and I promise that it will be a family favorite in your home too!
What is a no knead pizza dough?
Instead of kneading the dough like traditional pizza dough and bread, this method uses a long fermentation to give the gluten structure. This long fermentation in the fridge also gives the dough lots of complex flavors that you cannot get in a shorter proofing dough.
Do I need a cast iron skillet?
This pizza can also be made on baking sheet but I highly recommend investing in a cast iron pan if you can though. They are super versatile and can last forever if you take proper care of them. I personally use the ones from lodge.
Pizza dough ingredients:
11 oz bread flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp instant yeast
8oz warm water (about 100
degrees F)
2 Tbs olive oil for pan
No cook pizza sauce:
1 can of crushed tomatoes
1tsp minced garlic
1 tsp olive oil
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 sugar
1/4 tsp Italian seasoning
pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
Toppings
You can use whatever cheese you like, I like to use half mozzarella and half Monterey jack. You can also use fresh Parmesan around the edges to make an extra crispy crust.
Instructions
- In a large bowl mix bread flour, salt, and yeast until combined.
- Slowly add in water water and mix until dough is formed.
- knead the dough for one minute and form into a ball.
- grease the ball with cooking spray or any mild tasting oil and cover with plastic wrap.
- place the bowl in the fridge and let it rise for 12- 24 hours.
- after the dough has risen in the fridge place on the counter 30 minutes before you want to make you pizza so it comes to room temperature. It will be easier to press into your cast iron pan this way.
- coat the bottom of the cast iron pan in olive oil.
- press the dough into the pan to the edges.
- let the dough rise another hour while you prepare the sauce.
- smooth the sauce until an inch away from the edge.
- put mozzarella cheese in the middle and the Monterrey towards the outer edge. The cheese on the other edge will fry and create a crispy crust.
- Put whatever other topping you would like and place into a 400 degree oven for 25 minutes-30 minutes.
- If the bottom of the crust is not brown enough, place on the stove and cook on medium heat for 2-5 minutes.
- place on cooling rack and let cool for 10 minuets
- Enjoy!!
